Ah so this is why the Yellow ranger looked like a guy in a suit and not a lady....

^^

I remember finding that out a few years ago when I read up on the Zyuranger series they used for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, I ended up watching it online and I thought it was pretty cool. Thank god for subtitles lol I thought it was cool the Yellow ranger was a guy.

I'm halfway through the first DVD. I love it but you realise how rubbish the stories were, how terrible the monsters looked and how most of the scenes were repeated over and over again.

Back to the monsters though, I know it was a kids show but seriously... it's like Rita looks through her telescope and says "Ahhh so trini has a phobia of bread does she? Vinster, make me a bread monster!"

Geez.

Madame Woe was quite scary.
Everything else just looked rubbery, plastic and a bit pants.

Awesome pic!

I'm so excited about the reunion eps next year! My favorite character Karone (Pink Lost Galaxy #2/former villain Astronema) is even coming back! #stoked

I knew Power Rangers came from Japan as a remake, but I really didn't knew the US version didn't re did all the scenes, they actually used the japanese fight footage, even Rita Repulsa is a japanese actress lol, my fav ranger was Kimberly :-) can't wait to have the mighty morphings complete set

^Yep. They recycled the footage from the japanese version for as long as they could. Eventually they had to commission new footage to be shot when they ran out. And when you go back, it's actually blatantly obvious. There were tell-tale signs that I noticed as a kid, but didn't really piece it together until I learned this.

The obvious one is Rita Repulsa's infamously terrible voice over. I believe there were two different actresses.

- The yellow ranger doesn't have a skirt, because in the Japanese version, the yellow ranger is a boy. But some of the toys produced for the American market gave the yellow ranger a skirt.

- The Green Ranger's Shield: In the early episodes, the Green Ranger's shield is solid, and rigid. In the newly commissioned footage, his shield is soft and made of fabric.

- The rangers' costumes in the beginning where form-fitting, practically painted on when compared to the newer footage where the costumes were a bit loose on the actors.

Sidebar: I don't remember if this was mentioned, but has anyone noticed that Rita Repulsa is NOT wearing a hat, and in fact, she has grey hair tied up in an up-do?

I'm currently re-watching my Mighty Morphin Power Rangers complete series boxset, midway through season 1 at the moment. Still love this show, cheesy or not

To be released 11/12

I'm going to Rhode Island Comic Con in November and this year they have a huge Power Rangers reunion. So far they've announced 11 guests and I'm hoping for more. Currently it's..

Jason David Frank
David Yost
Walter Jones
Catherine Sutherland
Nakia Burrise
Steve Cardenas
Paul Schrier
Jason Narvy
Barbara Goodson
Kerrigan Mahan
Robert Axelrod

I'm quite excited. I'm hoping for Karan Ashley to get announced for this.

Shout Factory is going to release a 20 years of Power Rangers limited edition set. It's 98 dvds with all 787 episodes and it comes in a Red Ranger helmet for $650. Only 2000 are going to be made. If I didn't have 2 conventions coming up, I'd consider getting it.

Love the power rangers! I've been collected them for about 20 years now and have 500+ figures. Even went to the power rangers convention a few years ago.
Sadly, my boyfriend is an interior designer and refuses to let me display all my figures. I can't blame him I guess because I do have a LOT. So I can just display a few as long as he works them into his design asthetic.
