4.0 dropped from Sony?

Postby Jamie » 14 Dec 2011, 00:41

http://www.theprophetblog.net/sugababes-4-0-dropped-from-sony

Is the Sugababes’ reign of terror finally coming to an end?

I don’t usually post rumors, but this one was too fun to pass up. A reliable little industry birdy in the UK tells me that the latest bastardization of the Sugababes have been dropped from Sony just five months after officially signing with the label. The droppage is due to the disaster surrounding their single “Freedom”, which had to be shelved days before its official release due to lack of interest.

Adding fuel is the fact that the group still aren’t featured on the artist roster on RCA UK’s official website, their label home since signing a joint deal in July between their management agency and RCA.

Treat it as a rumor for now, but if true, this would be the second time the girls have been dropped this year, the first being from their longtime home Island, who gave them the axe after deciding not to go ahead with a follow-up to the floptacular Sweet 7.

No word yet on whether the band are splitting or if they’ll try and hunt down a new record deal, but I hear that their name is poison in the industry right now and that there aren’t many people keen to work with the girls.

Just let it go ladies. It’s not gonna happen for y’all!

Well if it is true Heidi needs to accept the fact there over if they do decide to carry on then they should change their name and start a fresh.

None of this would surprise me. They've been just a bit too quiet about the Sugababes for the last few months.

I did chuckle when i saw that.

But it does seem like the only thing that even gives them a small chance of saving is changing the name. Sad that its come to this but depserate times and all ....

^ Yeah, I was thinking the same. And I personally don't care if v 4.0 will have success or not. But the name is considered so dirty now that I don't want v 1.0 to take it (in case v 4.0 really disband which they probably already have and gives it away).

I don't want the Sugababes to end! I actually like 4.0! I'd prefer 3.0, but I'd be happy with any incarnation besides 1.0 :/

I heard from someone who knows someone at Sony (not very reliable I know!!) that when this someone asked about the state of the Sugababes at Sony, the reply was that she knew little about 4.0's progress, but that Sony were working with the originals in the new year. Not very reliable and I don't know how trustworthy this is, or what it means in fact?

But my hope is that all of them will reunite as a six piece and form a super group. That would be so epic and my ultimate dream! :D

Ha, the idea of the six of them together is the most bizarre thing ever. It sounds like a reality TV show waiting to happen!

I just want to know once and for all what's going on with "Sugababes".

Or because shock horror its not true.

Heidi said less than a month ago they weren't splitting. Granted things may have since changed but then again they may just be on a "hiatus" recording.

Well, they probably heard the original ones want to reform so sent back the replacements to the factory (for when the future line-up changes start to happen in a year or two) :D

According to Popjustice, they were only signed to Sony for one single. So no, they haven't been "dropped", but they don't have a record deal either.

Lol, a single that never even got a proper release? I'm sure there'll be dozens of record companies just fighting to sign them up now.

^ It'll be Mutya+Keisha vs. Heidi+Amelle. With Sio and Jade sitting in the corner wishing people would concentrate on the music and not fight about old issues :D

I actually dont think Mutya and Keisha are as close as people think. Amelle and Heidi seem to be the tightest two Sugababes of all, Amelle has even been visiting Heidi during her Dancing on Ice training.

I'd be all for a 6 piece reunion if only top get Mutya and Heidi talking again but lets face it hell will freeze over first. A reunion of all 6 members of Destinys child seems more likely.

I know a reunion seems unlikely but I would never say never. Mutya's Sugababes stationary sales aren't gonna keep her afloat forever so eventually I'm sure she'd reunite with the other 5 if she got a lot of cash from it/.

After the controvesial line up change and a flop album i wouldn't be surprised. If i was in charge of a record label i'd only commit to one single to ensure there is still demand for them.

I love my Mutya but couldn't stop laughing. Just picturing her selling these on the street :D

How much do such bands get from royalties? The Spice Girls seem to get lots each year but I know they are kinda on a higher level. Not sure how it is for bands like the Sugababes - would it be an insignificant amount or can you at least pay your bills with it?

I imagine it's enough to keep her in 12" acrylic nails, which is most likely why she did it.

I don't even want to start to imagine how much of a mess and split the Sugababes royalties must be! I'm sure everyone's financially stable besides from Jade, with no writing credits on any Sugababes material *and I think on her 7th record contract to date, I wonder how secure her financial future is...

* Unless I'm wrong and the girls helped to write Freedom? I can't remember and we never got a CD single to read the info from..:D Not that this would make any difference to Jade's bank balance as they got minimal profit from it.
