Sugababes Album - Critics' Professional Ratings

Postby Jay » 27 Mar 2012, 17:52

I've done this in the Girls Aloud & The Saturdays forums, so I thought I may as well for the Sugababes too. Which album did the critics think was the best? Scores are from a variety of different sites, collated on the Wiki pages for their albums.

One Touch 8 of 10.
Angels with Dirty Faces 13 out of 20.
Three 14 out of 20. [+ 'Positive' no-rating review by BBC Music / 'B' rating by Stylus Magazine]
Taller in More Ways 15 out of 20. [+ 'B+' rating by Stylus Magazine]
Overloaded: The Singles Collection 8.75 out of 10.
Change 17.5 out of 35.
Catfights and Spotlights 20.5 out of 30.
Sweet 7 18.5 out of 50.

The rating scores work out as:

Overloaded: The Singles Collection = 87.5% [Based on 2 reviews]
One Touch = 80.0% [Based on 2 reviews]
Taller in More Ways = 75.0% [Based on 4 reviews]
Three = 70.0% [Based on 4 reviews]
Catfights and Spotlights = 68.3% [Based on 6 reviews]
Angels with Dirty Faces = 65.0% [Based on 4 reviews]
Change = 50.0% [Based on 7 reviews]
Sweet 7 = 37.0% [Based on 10 reviews]

'One Touch' and 'Overloaded' only having two reviews each doesn't really show much, but interesting to see the other scores. 37% for Sweet 7, ouch! :x

Sad to see Sweet 7 so low, but it would have gotten awful reviews regardless of whether it was the album of the century due to the media hate of them at that time. Catfights and Change should be much higher (definitely above the awful One Touch!)

Sweet 7 IS a strong album despite all the circumstances surrounding it. It's just not very Sugababes but I still listen to it a LOT.

Catfights is very underrated. I'd put it in my Top 3 albums probably. Three being my favourite.

^ Sorry! I just find it so dull! :D

They do all sound nice though - especially when considering their age.

Nice Taller In More Ways and Three were both received quite well since they're probably my favorite albums, sad to see Sweet 7 so low since i quite enjoy that album

Taller and Three are my favorite albums as well. I didn't hate Catfights as much as the critics - just a couple songs that don't do anything for me and S7 I thought I would hate because I hate that direction of music style they went - but in reality, I only hated two songs of that album as well.

The thing with the sugababes album is that half the album is great and the other half is not good at all, that what happens to me in "angels", "taller", "change", "catfights"...

on Catfights, I hate "Beware"
on S7, I hate "Get Sexy"

I will literally skip 'em when they come on.
