Weight and air travel?

Postby Madrigal » 29 Jun 2012, 00:09

So this is been quite an issue as of late. An actor/writer Kevin Smith was kicked off a Southwest flight for being overweight, due to weight restrictions or something like that. Naturally this has me concerned because I am quite overweight myself.

I planned on going to Nebraska to visit my friend who just had a baby, I don't drive, and I find train rides tedious. Plus I LOVE to fly. Problem is, I've gained a deal of weight since the last time I flew. Which leads me to my next question... How much bigger are seats in first class? I'd be willing to put out the extra money if the seating is bigger, because I KNOW how small the seats are in coach.

In hindsight I need to lose weight anyway, but I won't have lost enough weight by then to travel coach without the risk of being denied a flight.

I'm tentatively on visiting late fall after tornado season is over! :p (Yes I'm paranoid about that!)

http://www.seatguru.com they actually give seat widths :)

find the airline, find the plane type, BOOM. Width taken care of :)

I recently flew first class on Delta (a slightly smaller plan than an international plane, was flying to Hawaii, usually the planes are bigger than domestic planes) and the first class seat, width wise, was about a coach size seat plus maybe half (or a little less) than another coach seat put together.
