I just stopped on my own one day 5 yrs ago! I had fake nails on for years-- and I think that took the urge away.

I've got some white leggings :) but I wear them with some of my black/brown skirts/dresses(not with all of them but with some) :p

I never persoanlly had the nail problem, but a few friends back at school did and I remember some of them trying the nail varnish which tasted horrible and that seemed to work.

My brother used to bite the skin around his nails and my Mum bought him a type of cream you paint on that also tastes horrible, that worked too!

This was years ago though.

Good luck!

the only way I don't bite my nails down to nothingness is if I have fake nails.
I took my fake nails off and within 2 months I was a biter again. Strangely enough I don't even get the urge to bite if I have fake nails on.

I've given up and accepted my fingers have to look horrible since I just don't have time to get my nails filled every 2 weeks.

hmm... never seen this thread before. but some of you might be able to help since im having an uber fasion crisis lately.

hope someone can help me a bit here, see the thing is, i have what i consider quite an unusual body shape, and no eye for fasion, and ive gained quite a bit of weight lately and its just getting even harder now.

maybe it will help if i explain the "unisual body shape". first off, I have a fairly small waist, so people look at that and go not fat! but... I have very broad shoulders, no boobs and HUGE hips/bum. All my weight is carried there and its just SO unflattering.

a few pictures (not of me) to take examples from
Borad shoulders and no boobs like the woman on the right. fairly thin upper torso from playing lacrosse but slightly large upper arms. (used to rock climb but stopped and the muscle turned to wobbly eurgh)
Image

Then on the bottom
large thighs (boyfriend jeans look terrible because it makes me look that big all the way down, and skinny jeans look bad because they emphasise)
Image
and then i dnt know how to describe this bit. its like back fat just above the bum. where my bum starts to go in as it joins the bottom of my back, but then goes back out again (without the help of too tight jeans, its just there naturally) and it creates a sort of muffin top on the back which makes all my tshirts ride up. sort of like this...
Image

ok, so to try to put that together here is a pic of me (your not getting one showing the bad bits, they get deleted straight away)
Image

Im the one on the closest end, but bare in mind that picture was at halloween right before my dance show, i was a good 7 or 8lbs lighter than i am now which shows on the thighs but it was too hard to keep my weight there. curently my top half looks pretty much the same, but my bum and thighs are bigger. (like i said, all the weight goes straight there). on that pic you can see the flat chest and the broad shoulders, and if you look (it looks a bit like a wrinkle in my tshirt) you can see this random fat bump i have around my back.

anyway, pretty much, I can do nights out, because I have slim calves (dance and lacrosse keep them so) so i just wear knee length dresses, or black shorts with black tights and uber heels. but i really struggle with day time. my legs are quite short so all jeans emphasise the thighs and bum, I cant wear heels because they are highly impractical for where i live, and its cold (my main problem is dressing suitable for the whether)

I like the long tshirt and leggings look or dresses/skirts because they tend to cover the big bum and show of the slim calf, but i dont know where to get them and whatnot. i also like three quarter sleeves to cover the bingo wings.

my final problem is shoes. i have an unusual foot shape where my ark is high and my toes are low so i cant wear shoes like dolly shoes or heels without straps of some sorts. i am quite liking little pumps lately but im not sure how to dress them. any ideas???

hope someone can help, im sure you are all dying to do me a nice flattering outfit really. bring out your creative side.

generally i want to avoid jeans (especially boyfriend jeans), chunky hoodies (they roll over the hips and show off my back/bum), and certain vest tops. the lack of boob is quite an issue for me and i dont like my arms on show too much. I love v-neck tops, long enough to cover at least most of my bum, and three quarter sleeves. I want practical for going to uni or walking round the shops and stuff like that. ~I just hope someone can create something awesome for me!!!

oh and if anyone wants to look for pretty or formal instead i also have a ball and graduation coming up.

the ball involves walking outside on gravel quite a bit (and there are rides there, so no full length or overly pricey dresses)
Image
this is the sort of thing im thinking

and for graduation most people wear a blouse and black skirt, but blouses rarely fit me nicely with the big shoulder small boob problem and also the open collar on a blouse doesnt sit nice under the gown. Im sure you americans are more used to graduation robes, ive never worn one before. but i was thinking i want like a pencil skirt on the bottom cut just above my knee, or a nice black dress.

that stuff works really well. i never vit my nails, but my friend put it on me as a joke once without me realising what it was and i was nearly sick when i tried to eat a bag of crisps later and licked the salt off my fingers. I also find using treats helps. like for example say once you get them to a certain length, buy yourself some new nailvarnish, or maybe a new ring to show off your pretty new hands, then maybe a manicure. eventually you just get out of the habit. its how one of my friends did it. a bit expensive though.

also, i suggest whilst growing them, file them every night. just a little bit. or if you feel the need to bite one, file it instead. then make sure they are all the same length. for me i cant stand it if my nails arent all equil length, so if you do that, they will grow slower, but they will look a lot nicer, and i always find my nails are stronger if i file them often. also, nailteaques or something similar (i know thats spelt wrong), which helps your nails to stay strong are very good. it stops them breaking and also, if you spend some time (and money) on them often, you will be less inclined to bite them all off i find.

Hann--

You have the same problem a lot of women do! Larger hips and thighs with a smaller top.

First bit of advice: Dress for your body type and not trends. For instance-- if you have a problem with 'muffin topping' (many women do), then you can't get away with low rise jeans. You have to buy the jeans that fit the largest part of your body (bum and hips) and then if the waist is too big, get it taken in. Stick to jeans that are 'boot cut' as they will come in at the knee, and flare out slightly which in turn balances out your hips. Example below, and look how great they look with flats!

Image

A dress cut like this is also your friend-- A-Line. It brings you in at your tiny waist, and then drapes over the larger areas. Extremely flattering and forgiving! The detail at the neck also draws the eye upwards and the length shows off shapely calves. The little flutter sleeve gives you a little coverage if you're self conscious about your arms:

Image

Babydoll styles will also flatter you, love this one from ASOS which will also give you the appearance of having a bigger chest: http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Cotton-Ba ... am%2fBlack

These items are some of the other looks I think you'd be good in:
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Longline- ... =Grey+Marl
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Chambray- ... 1&clr=Blue
(adds volume at the top to balance out your hips) http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Ruffle-Fr ... 1&clr=Navy

You could also try a long line t-shirt, leggings, with an oversized blazer: http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Boyfriend ... 1&clr=Navy

There we have it!

I do tend to wear bootcut, its about all i can even nearly pull off, and i have a pair of dVb ones which are miles too long but look AMAZING with heels, but when i wear flats they just seem to emphasise the shortness of my leg. (I am about a cm too tall for short but regulars swamp me, I always have to have them shortened but it puts the knee in the wrong place)

the first one you posted is luch, i love the white and black, but im not sure its me, I cant pull off over fasionable things. Im a bit of a tomboy so when i try to dress nice people always give me wierd looks. they compliment it but in a way thats like, that looks good, but too good for you sort of thing. the grey top is VERY me! i already have it in three colours, lol. and the shirts are gorgeous. ive been looking for ones like that for ages.

and the blazer, I love. I always used to wear blazers like that in college, but since going to uni i just lost the "fashion" in me. its the same problem as before where im scared to make a change because people just go like WTF?!?!? I always hang out with the lads so it just looks a bit odd. lol. although i am loving that blazer. I might get one of them and the shirts.

thanks galore

So, sounds like you are going in the right direction! The black and white dress was just an example of the cut that would work on you... not the dress itself.

Ppl that try to make you feel silly for looking good, are simply jealous and want to take you down a peg!

You could always pair the blazer with the collared shirt and jeans-- very cool.

Glad I could help.

I'm wondering, Galore, what do you think about MAC Pro Longwear Lustre Lipcolour? I saw a swatch online and it seems interesting but apparently you need to prep you lips in advance and it's a bitch to remove, is that true?

I haven't tried it personally... maybe I'll go in and give it a test however most longwear lipsticks are really drying!

I guess that's why it said to put lipbalm before. I think I'll give it a try. I wanted to "gift" myself a bit with the money from my web contract and I plan on going to the MAC counter and get one and a lusterglass too. I'm just exited by the tought of having a MAC product. Now I just have to think about the shade because I'm hesitating between 3 colors.

Not really fashion, but didn't want to open a new topic.

Has anyone tried Rimmel soft kohl black eyeliner. Its incredibly cheap but I find it really good. Just wondered what others thought, how it compared to what others have tried?

Thanks!

I don't use eyeliner. It makes my eyes look small and I don't know how to do it correctly?

But a question for myself, can dehydration cause chapped lips?

I would guess so, just like dry skin. For example after you have been on a long flight.

Yes! I bought it once after seeing it recommended in a magazine. I quite like it but I tend to use it only for like general wear not when I fully do my make up to go out. It's a lot better than other pencil eyeliners I've bought.

I'm starting to prefer liquid liner though, just in terms of applying it. I've got Maybelline Liner Express, which goes on and comes off nicely and has a good applicator.

Anyone tried Illamasqua nail polish? I saw one color that I really like, but since they are not available in shop in Canada, I can't really test them. I wonder if they are good since they are a bit pricy (13ÂŁ or about 25$)

Isn't Sephora carrying Illamasqua now? That is WAY too expensive for a nail polish, imo.

Yeah I've used the Rimmel one before, I quite liked it. I found mine went a bit hard quite quickly - you know how pencil liners sometimes go a bit 'hard' and don't blend very well after a while? Even after sharpening it. But, it stays on quite nicely and for around ÂŁ2.50 ish? I think it's not bad at all.

One of my favourites at the moment is Bourjois' Kohl & Contour Pencil - I like to use pencil liners to blend with my eyeshadow on my lid (to create a smokey look) aswell as along the lashlines and this one is quite soft so it's blends nicely, which I love. And it also stays put all day, which is always a bonus!

Nope
Sephora wrote:The following brands are not available for sale in Canada at this time: Amore Pacific, Bvlgari, CHANEL, Cosmedicine, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Illamasqua, Kate Somerville, L'Occitane, Michael Kors, N.V. Perricone (all DMAE products only), Peter Thomas Roth, Ralph Lauren and Shiseido.

Yes it's really expensive IMO too, but I really love the shade, I only ever saw one similar made by NYC and their polish is way too cheap.
