winter footwear?

Postby Heather » 09 Aug 2011, 17:52

I just moved somewhere that they get a real winter. It's going to be snowy for like 6 months. I'm SCARED! none of my shoes will work but I will not under any circumstances wear anything that resembles this in any way shape or form

where would I find a reasonable alternative to that crap?

Two years ago I bought some Pajar boots, they look great and are hot (my feet always gets cold in winter)
mine are similar to this but in leather

Blondo makes pretty ones too

They range from 100-200$, for me having my feet not frozen by cheap boots from Payless is worth it. Plus they are Canadian company so...

These aren't so bad.

The North Face has some really cute ones if you want higher calf boots.
Then again, you can get those darn Uggs. They may be ugly as all heck but they sure are warm.

I love Uggs. They're way warm. My only qualm with them is that if where you're from puts salt down on the roads & sidewalks in the winter, they eat away at the leather after awhile, whether you treat them or not. Leave stains, etc. It's not cool for as much as they are.

But I'm told it'll snow for months here how can I wear uggs in the snow?

I could only wear mine on dry days on the west coast.

Michigan gets shit tons of snow! I wear mine in the winter all the time. Mind you, I don't go playing in the snow, which I assume you do with your girls in the winter. So you're probably better off getting what someone else mentioned in this thread.

I love North Face, but I can't afford anything from there. I just stick to Uggs and keep warm as much as possible. :p

Oh yes I'll be out in the snow a lot. I refuse to drive in the snow so I'm willing to bet I'll be walking my oldest to school quite a bit.

I suggest you get leather boots and not suede. I talk from experience, suede gets dirty from the calcium and it's a pain to wash off. My leather boots had calcium protection when I got them and now I put some every year. The girl that sold them to me said sh put them on with no sock at -30C.

We do get shitload of snow. Some times as early as November (please no) and late as March-April. We had a crazy years back in 2007-2008, be glad you missed it

But last year wasn't half as bad, don't worry :)

Diving in snow isn't that bad, you just have to get used to it. That crazy winter was the one I drove to Toronto in February to see the Spice Girls. Toronto people know nothing about snow remooval :despise:

no way man I'm not driving in that. I have never even seen that much snow in my life :O

My daughter's school is a block away so I'll walk unless it's -30 then she'll just stay home.

I didn't either and lived in Montreal area for 24 year (back then) even my parent said it was the worst since the storm of the century back in 71!

Me too! I have not found anything that is good and affordable yet. Will probably wait for Black Friday and get something then

After searching for hours on the interwebs, I couldn't find a pic of my boots but they're basically like these (only a darker colour and less detail):

Thanks although mine don't look like that much. Just the basic lines are the same. I realised I could have just taken a photo of my boots instead of searching the net. :p Oh well.

Oh, I'm going to get my winter boots today. I'd love to get some Pajar ones, but they are so expensive! Although.. I fit into kids' shoes, so I might take a look at those. Otherwise, I'm probably going for some kind of Sorels. As long as they're not too bulky.
