They have already launched a streaming only no download service in Korea.

They have also renamed the itunes festival, the apple music festival, it is happening they just don't want to admit it yet as that would kill download sales dead now and they will wanna squeeze every last penny out of them.

The iTunes Festival being rebranded is nothing new, it was rebranded the Apple Music Festival last year after the launch of Apple Music.

She always had really elaborate imagery and music videos even if they are quite simple: Umbrella, We Found Love, Disturbia, the ones from Rated R era. In my opinion, even Stay (which is so simple) is iconic: Something Gaga should have done not to become as irrelevant as she is today. x

Knowing MTV...
Umbrella
Distrubia
One of her featured videos
Only Girl
Stay
BBHMM only bc it's so controversial.
Needed Me only bc it's recent.
This Is What You Came For only bc it's recent.

I think she's pretty deserving of the award. She's had some good videos over the years. Majority aren't that memorable but her catalog is huge. I don't want to compare it to Michael Jackson, but MTV will probably say something like that when presenting the award.

The only videos of hers that I can ever recall off the top of my head would be Umbrella (as it was always on) and We Found Love. I'd struggle with any others personally.

I'd say...

Umbrella
Disturbia
Rude Boy
Love The Way You Lie
Only Girl
What's My Name?
We Found Love

Tbh she's probably the most deserving out of her peers.

The Vanguard award has become a yearly thing to attract viewers anyway. The last few winners have been Britney, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé & Kanye. And before Britney got hers, the last person to receive it was in 2006 - and that wasn't even a recording artist!

It is happening, Korea is just them testing out the water.

Downloads are dying, One Dance was #14 on sales one of the weeks it was #1 in the UK.

Needed Me has been on the Hot 100 28 weeks and plenty of weeks top 10 and it has 'only' sold 700k.

I'm surprised people aren't mentioned S&M. It got a lot of attention when it came out. Also the dance scenes in Where Have You Been are some of her best (and only).

She has loads of great videos, Hard and Rude Boy were such extensions of the songs the imagery matched the vibe so well.

Only girl was the start of the red hair phase.

Bitch is a hoot.

We found love sums up a generation.

Umbrella has some amazing imagery and again goes with the vibe of the song, as does Disturbia.

I'm surprised Bjork or Jennifer Lopez haven't gotten one - yet.

This seems a little bizarre to me, but 'Too Good' is now Rihanna's longest Top 10 run in the UK.

It's now been Top 10 for 16 weeks: [41-23]-8-6-7-6-5-5-3-3-6-6-10-8-8-10-10-10...

Weeks in UK Top 10:
16 weeks - Too Good (#3)
15 weeks - This Is What You Came For (#2)
14 weeks - We Found Love (#1)
14 weeks - Diamonds (#1)
14 weeks - Love The Way You Lie (#2)
13 weeks - Umbrella (#1)
12 weeks - The Monster (#1)
12 weeks - Work (#2)
11 weeks - Only Girl (In The World) (#1)
11 weeks - Disturbia (#3)
11 weeks - FourFiveSeconds (#3)
10 weeks - Take A Bow (#1)
10 weeks - What's My Name? (#1)
10 weeks - Stay (#4)
9 weeks - Rude Boy (#2)
9 weeks - Don't Stop The Music (#4)
8 weeks - S&M (#3)
7 weeks - SOS (#2)
7 weeks - Princess of China (#4)
6 weeks - Run This Town (#1)
6 weeks - Russian Roulette (#2)
5 weeks - Pon De Replay (#2)
5 weeks - Unfaithful (#2)
5 weeks - Live Your Life (#2)
5 weeks - Shut Up and Drive (#5)
5 weeks - Where Have You Been (#6)
4 weeks - Who's That Chick? (#6)
1 week - California King Bed (#8)
1 week - Take Care (#9)

The UK must have missed the memo that 'Take Care' is the superior "Drake feat. Rihanna" moment, which funnily enough is at the very bottom of the pile, with just 1 week in the UK Top 10 & a #9 peak.

29 UK Top 10 hits!

'This Is What You Came For' is now 2 x Platinum in the UK. If I'm not mistaken this is her fifth single to pass this milestone, following 'Love The Way You Lie', 'Only Girl (In The World)', 'We Found Love' and 'Diamonds'.

'Too Good' passed 900,000 this week, so it's inevitable that it'll eventually become her 7th million seller in the UK. ('Work' is currently her 6th best seller).

Her best sellers list is going to start looking quite curious, because of the impact of streaming:

'Needed Me', which peaked at #38, has now "outsold" her #2 hits 'Pon De Replay' & 'SOS' and is probably destined to achieve a higher sales total than her #1 single 'Run This Town'. 'Needed Me' is fast approaching gold certified status (400,000+) but only around 40,000 of its current 390k total is derived from download sales.

'Umbrella', despite its amazing 10 weeks at #1 in the UK, suffers from being released at a time when physical sales were on the slide and downloads were only starting to properly get going. It'll soon be pushed down to 9th in her best sellers list.

I love how Rihanna is able to so easily transition from format to format in how music is consumed. She started out selling cd singles, then became download queen now is streaming god. I think it is proof she really is the general publics fave as it is always the way music is mass consumed that she prospers most from.

I still think streaming shouldn't be part of the charts.

Then most countries wouldn't have a chart now as downloads are dead in most places and cds died out long ago.

Popularity =/= quality. Donald Trump is popular but it doesn't make him good.

I feel like you are having an argument with yourself. You keep bringing up points that have no baring on what has been posted.

Rihanna is incredibly popular and has been selling huge amounts for over a decade now. You can count on one hand the amount of artists that manage that. Her sales and impact put her up with the likes of Madonna, Mariah etc. Whether the likes of those artist are to your taste (or mine) is by the by they obviously were/are doing something right.
