It's been hovering around the #50-#55 mark since yesterday, would be great if it was back into the Top 40 this week for Christmas. Having 3 Xmas #1s on the album should help! :)

if you are referring to this http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/charts/albums/ as #42 then I think that includes what people download and stream free with an Apple music subscription as well as paid for downloads of the album individually.

The #59 is where it is on the itunes album chart of brought albums individually.

Well, technically it's #47 now if all of those compilations do not count towards the official album chart, right?! #66 now.

Singles which definitely reached 1 million sales or more worldwide were -

Wannabe
Say You'll Be There
2 Become 1
Mama/Who Do You Think You Are
Spice Up Your Life
Too Much
Viva Forever
Goodbye

I don't think Stop, Holler/LLLTW or Headlines reached 1m+ worldwide - I could be wrong about Stop??

Pretty sure Stop sold a million WW, it is 400k uk and 150k France, so 550k from 2 countries. It made #16 in the US and a smattering of top 10's from other countries.

The #59 is where it is on the itunes album chart of brought albums individually.

The apple.com link removes all the explicit albums, so that's why the positions are different!

Greatest Hits is currently #69, which works out to #51 if the Various Artist albums are removed. 'Spice' is at #1419.

2 Become 1 is #372 & #480. :hunny:

It wont have charted this week in the top 200. It is the week before xmas where CD sales will have been at their highest all year and it will take the most sales of the whole year to enter the top 200. It will have sold a few hundred copies though I'm sure.

Okay. Thanks for letting me know, Sammy.

Seeing as it was in Top 5-60 on iTunes and the Kworb download chart all week, was hoping for a Top 100 at least :(

To put it into perspective, the #100 album on the download chart sold 367 downloads, and the Spice Girls' Greatest Hits didn't make the download Top 100. Over 1400 sales were required to make the official Top 200 albums chart this week. So it's safe to say they were pretty far away from charting. :p

Greatest Hits would probably have needed to be consistently within the iTunes albums Top 20 for the whole week to have had a chance of making the Top 200. (Obviously this isn't taking into account any CD sales, but it's anyone's guess how many that is currently selling - it's Top 400 on Amazon at the moment).

I think in a normal week we'd really need to see the Greatest Hits within the iTunes Top 40 for it to re-enter the charts. So let's hope they keep it priced at £4.99 and perhaps one of these days it'll make it.

I thought the same, because Robbie Williams' Greatest hits was top 10 on iTunes but ended up somewhere between 40 and 60 on Official Album Chart. So I kind of expected them not to chart. Eh.

When it comes to albums, people actually still prefer to buy physical copies. Unless there's a bunch of heavily pre-ordered albums, I don't believe you need a lot of copies to chart within the top ten.

Yes and no. This time of year CD sales are obviously at their highest. In the middle of summer the itunes chart is much more relevant or used to be.

Though streaming is obviously killing off both rapidly.

Just out of interest Jay, has the OCC ever made it clear why they include compilations in the album download chart but not in the official chart? Seems odd to have different rules for each.

It would be interesting to see how the GH does on itunes if it stays at £4.99. I could see it in out and of the top 200 on itunes regularly if it stayed at that price point.

I don't think they have ever given a justification for the download chart having both artist & compilation albums! They're pretty inconsistent lol. I wish there was a standalone chart for artist album downloads.

the GH is still £4.99 on UK itunes and #136. It has been top 200 now since Dec 17th. It obviously wont be selling huge amounts but it shows that if it is reasonably priced (after all it is 10 years old this year) then there is demand for it.

Also if they can keep it at £4.99 when their music gets an unexpected boost, like SYBT being performed on X factor this year, then the boost will be maximised by the reasonable price.
