I Don't Know How To Love Him - Chart Topic
Re: I Don't Know How To Love Him - Chart Topic
All this talk of flop.
As if it matters! There are a lot of (indie) artists selling less, getting less exposure and still doing what they do. It's not about record breaking sales, of course that would be nice, but it's not the point! The point is Melanie loving what she does and the fans enjoying it too.
I enjoy it, Melanie seems to, and she's not bankrupt... So to me it's a success. :-)

Both her albums were with a label that offered her a contract after hearing her demo, how does that make her indie
Not into her though, so I'm obviously fuzzy on the details there...
Marian Call is an indie artist. She sells "so little" she can personally mail out each cd and asks fans to translate things for her/get info about local things/help find venues etc. Compared to her Melanie is a huge selling artist... Yet she can get by by being a singer, enjoy it and allow her audience to enjoy it too. That, in my humble opinion, makes her succesfull... But that'd also mean Melanie is even MORE succesfull

The UK just doesn't like solo spice girl music no matter what they do.
It is a shame but its not going to change.

That does not really make her an independant artist though. She still benefits from the knowledge, contacts, experience, accountants, publicity people etc. that the label has. "Real" indie artist have to do everything themselves or hire people to do it for them if they can afford that. For which they may or may not create their own label for liability purposes.
Independent label prettymuch just means record label with less than 5% of the global market, not that the signed artists are independent musicians. Confusing, innit?

I loved it when Kylie was constantly numbar one on the Indie chart because Peter Waterman created the PWL label for her when no-one would sign her. All the Indie snobs fumed about it

That probably means she isn't officially Top 200. Only the Top 15 of last week's Indie chart were in the Top 200.

It's a song from a musical. It's not everybody's cup of tea.

Hope it will. If it's not I will be requesting it... even if I've already bought it twice
can't hurt to let 'em know there's demand for it!

Doubt it. With the remasted JCS soundtrack album out I doubt they will be promoting Melanie's

I went to see Chicago once and they were selling the guy who plays Billy Flynn's country album on the stand, so I say it's possible.
