Beckham Giving Pelé DéjàVu
Soccer legend Pelé has conceded that the impending arrival of David Beckham in Los Angeles is reminding him of the days when he led a star line of NASL recruits back in the 70’s.
The former New York Cosmos and Brazil revelation believes the former England skipper’s move overseas can only pay dividends for the 10-year old MLS.

Silly, I know, but he does have a nice smile.

Er, that's a Damien Hirst, David
One wouldn't think of David Beckham as a modern art aficionado, but I hear his interest in the subject goes further than the numerous tattoos that adorn his body.
The 32-year-old former England captain wants to amass a serious art collection and has turned to British artist Sacha Jafri for help.
David's interest in modern art was fired after he bought a Damien Hirst butterfly painting from art dealer Jay Jopling as a fourth wedding anniversary present for wife Victoria, reportedly on the recommendation of Sir Elton John.
Now, having forked out £11million for a mansion in LA, David wants more works to grace it.
"He's really getting into the art world - he takes it seriously and hopes to amass a valuable collection," says Sacha. "He has asked me to take part in an exhibition he's helping to organise in Beverly Hills. He's much more into art than Victoria."
With his £128million deal with LA Galaxy, I'm sure David can afford a few masterpieces.

when he is finally put back on the squad this will deserve it's own thread. but, i'm hoping the more written about his return to england the closer we're getting to it.
McClaren ready to restore his faith in new man Beckham
David Beckham could be set for an England comeback.
Manager Steve McClaren is considering bringing back the former skipper for the showpiece friendly against Brazil, which marks the team’s international return to Wembley on June 1, and the crucial European Championship qualifier in Estonia five days later.
McClaren has been impressed by both Beckham’s form and attitude since his return to the Real Madrid team. It is widely acknowledged in the Spanish capital that the 32-year-old midfielder’s resurgence has been instrumental in the team’s march to the top of the table.
The England boss is also aware that would-be successors to Beckham’s role on the right side of midfield have not had the impact he had hoped.
McClaren is due to name his squad on Saturday following the England B friendly against Albania at Burnley on Friday night. Any decision over Beckham may hinge on how he performs in Real’s game at Recreativo Huelva on Sunday.
Beckham was ostentatiously axed from the England squad last year by McClaren in his first act as Sven Goran Eriksson’s successor.
But Beckham’s renaissance at Real Madrid, where he has inspired his team-mates to an unlikely run to the top of the table, means his form is now impossible to ignore.
cap would mark an amazing six months for Beckham, whose top-level career appeared to be over when he announced in January that he would move to LA Galaxy this summer, prompting Real coach Fabio Capello to axe him from his team.
But after returning to the Real side in February, he has been their best player, meaning that McClaren now has to decide whether to follow Capello in performing a U-turn on Beckham and bring him back for games that could decide his own future as England coach.
"I still want to play for my country and I still believe I can do it," said Beckham in an interview published yesterday.
Beckham had been under consideration for the games in March against Israel and Andorra, but in the event McClaren did not have to make a decision as the midfielder was ruled out with a knee injury.
Following the dreadful displays in both games  a goalless draw and a nervous 3-0 win  England fans chanted Beckham’s name and called for his recall.
Former skipper Beckham has only four games left at Real and he is planning a dramatic farewell by winning his first major trophy since moving to Spain in 2003.
"I want to win the league before I leave," he said. "This league title is Real Madrid’s and I’m sure we’re going to do it."

I can see David being interested in art actually.
As much as David deserves a spot in teh England team, I doubt McClaren would ever get over his ego and recall him

Nice little bit from The Times.
---
The countdown to the end of the David Beckham era at Real Madrid has begun, a mix of high suspense and fond elegies. On Thursday evening there was a small get-together with some of his closer friends from the squad at a favoured restaurant just outside the Spanish capital, and the presentation of an engraved silver tray thanking him for the memories, telling him he would always have a home in Madrid. Beckham likes to think it will not be the only piece of silverware he takes to Los Angeles from Spain.
Madrid sit top of the table this morning, there by the slimmest of margins - a superior head-to-head record - over the defending champions, Barcelona, and there for the first time since October 2005. “I want the league title before I go,â€

I think at this point, Mclaren's in a win-win situation... either he recalls David and he helps England win, and everyone applauds Mclaren for being big enough to correct a mistake; or he recalls David and he helps England lose, and everyone applauds Mclaren for making the correct decision in the first place.

the assumption there would be they lose because of david, which would take a huge leap of hte imagination. i think at this point people want to see him play for their country, again. they'd thank him and be on with it.
at this point, i'm not getting the argument against him playing for the team. i

Marca.
Beckham was accompanied by Roberto Carlos, Cicinho and Michel Salgado along with a large number of friends at the Alsador restaurant. The English player became emotional when they presented him with a silver plate inscribed with the message: "From your friends. 'La Peñita.' Good luck." Suerte’.]
Beckham replied: "Thank you for everything. For how you have treated me in Madrid and in this country. I will not forget you all. You have made me happy. You all are like my family. I will return to Madrid whenever I can, but I do not want to leave without winning this league. I think will will win it..." and he looked with empathy to Roberto Carlos. Because the Brazilian is another who will leave Real Madrid after eleven years at the club. They both want the league and they said as much at the dinner. [“Gracias por todo. thanks for bringing those over.
this is so stupid, i had to post. i love his voice, bastards.
Oh La-di-David
LOS Angeles-bound David Beckham has hired a top voice coach to try to turn himself into a Hollywood icon.
The Real Madrid star and his wife Victoria have made no secret of their desire to become big in the US of A.
And since signing his megabucks deal to play for LA Galaxy, 32-year-old Becks has wanted to train his voice so he can perform in front of the Hollywood cameras.
But he is well aware that his squeaky cockney accent is far from ideal if he is to compete in Hollywood and, according to a well-placed source here at the Cannes Film Festival, he has sought professional help.
A top Hollywood director told us: “David has everything he needs to break into Hollywood – except the right voice.
“Nobody expects him to become Shakespeare overnight. But hopefully, with a bit of help, he will be able to improve on his vocal frailties.
“I’ve heard that David’s people have been putting the feelers out for some time. He may even make a surprise visit to Cannes this week and I have heard he is now signed up with one of the best voice coaches in the business – a guy who has successfully trained several ex-American sports stars who have gone on to make it in the movies.
“David has the looks and the global potential to sell a massive amount of units – all he has to do is get that voice right.â€

he's too physically perfect other-wise. He's obviously comfortable with himself and his voice which they always exagerate as if every guy talks in base.
