Ya which ever way one looks at it, to deny how amazing his career has been is just stupid. And his impact beyond the pitch is admirable as well, my mother just arrived today home from New York where she spent last 3 months. And although she knows i been following his career, she doesn't watch football, and is not interested, yet she said; "So David retired? I saw it all over the news in America" , that says a lot as well.

My sister-in-law don't like him which irritates me. She is a soccer player herself, but likes Ronaldo and all those people more, but she says Beckham is overrated, and can't do anything good..

Some people, former players with better stats, current players with better stats..., are really jealous of him for establishing a brand recognizable all over the world so they criticize him and say he's not good enough of a player to get all the attention. For some people the fact that he receives more money from advertising than from football proves that when he's hired it's for marketing only. The pettiness of people will never allow them to recognize what an amazing long ball and free kick maker he was. You don't get "bend it like Beckham" solely on marketing. (sorry for the bad english)

Well he was runner up for World Player of the Year two years running...and really in 1999 he shouldn't have been runner up after the historical Treble.

^ I'm surprised by that, barely saw a mention on Sports Center. I avoided the US coverage because they tend to be flippant but the one local coverage I saw was short but nice. But according to the guys on ESPN's press pass, his crying was stage managed by his PR, as if he's the only athlete to cry when he retired  .

It's quite simple. Anybody who says he was overrated, knows nothing about football.

The World Player of the Year is voted for by NT managers and captains. I'd take their opinion over that of some guy behind a computer screen who calls himself a journalist.

But, Beckham is always going to divide opinions...I think that's what made his career so special; he always managed to prove the doubters wrong, even if some didn't want to admit it. (I just had to change that sentence to the past tense.. :( )

Not abroad he isn't. His number 7 was only used for his endeavors in the UK. In France, which is where the jersey was presented, his number was 32.

I was just being picky, hence the ' :p '...

I really want him to do SoccerAid although given it's proximity it's seeming unlikely.
