OT: (Pointless) Article on Jimmy Gulzar's single from 2001

Postby VodkaMouth » 17 Dec 2012, 16:30

I bought an issue of Heat Magazine from May 2001 and there was a small article about that single Jimmy was going to release about Phoenix. It's kind of pointless, but there's not much to discuss at the moment so I thought I'd share it in case anyone is interested:

Jimmy Gulzar has put back the release date for his first single to avoid a chart battle with his ex-wife, Mel B.

Jimmy, whose fiery split from the Spice Girl after less than two years was well documented, has spent the last eight months recording his debut single, "Don't Give Up". The track is about the "pain" of being a weekend dad to the couple's daughter, Phoenix Chi. Jimmy says of the single, "Being apart from her has never made any sense to me. It seems wrong that any father should be left missing his child just because the parents don't get along."

Jimmy, who sees Phoenix every other weekend, had planned to release the track this May. But on discovering that Mel B was planning to release her latest single, "Lullaby", on the 28th of May, Jimmy put the release date back in a bid to avoid going head to head with his former lover.

Ironically, while Jimmy's track is an uptempo street mix all about missing his daughter, Mel B has the two-year-old on the cover of her single, cuddling up to her famous mum.

The toddler will also be appearing in the video for Mel's song which the singer, like Jimmy, wrote for her daughter.

And as Jimmy backs out of confrontating Mel B in a battle of the charts, music insiders are now expecting him to release the single at the end of this summer.

A spokeswoman for Jimmy confirmed, "We will not be releasing the single this May now. It will be out later this summer."

Am I the only one here that would have LOVED to hear this (as well as watching his documentary)? Not surprised this wasn't released in the end though, I mean... it took him EIGHT months to record the single? Wow, it must have been fucking shite.

Well I remeber the Smah Hits magazine made a note about his own version of 'Tell me' and I was the only one who was interested in it :D

:music: Anyway I still want to hear this. No matter how bad he sings (or even raps maybe) but he was a hot man in 2000s. I wonder how he's looking now, couldn't find the actual pictures

I have no idea, but I remember seeing pictures of Jimmy with Phoenix around Los Angeles a couple of years ago.

There's no way this would have been bigger than "Lullaby"! Unless the song was actually good (and something tells me it must have been shit) nobody would have bought it, although I could see the press giving it loads of attention.

Here's an odd tidbit of information. Jimmy apparently recorded the song with British rap artist Spyce according to his resume (http://www.jimmygulzar.com/resume.html). It's possible that this is him: http://www.myspace.com/spyce007 .

In an odd coincidence, a Californian based female rap artist named Spyce originally sued the Spice Girls over first use vs trademark issues (she was recording under Spyce in 1995, but the girls applied for trademark first).

Is anybody friends with Jimmy over Facebook? Maybe we can get him to post it.

Wasn't that rapper that sued them or whatever called Spice1? I always thought that was the case, I might be wrong though.

I still have some pictures of him (far away in box with lots of other spice cutting). It was the time he first met Mel B.. Before joing the spicies on tour. He worked as a gogo dancer in a gayclub called ''The It'' in Amsterdam.. The pictures along the article of him in his underwear where quite steamy!!

What could possibly be more pointless than bumping this pointless thread after 5 years? ;)

I found this on YouTube and having never seen it, thought I'd share:
