"But maybe when David was playing for England, people took him for granted. As soon as he's not playing people call for him to be recalled and that speaks volumes.
"The guy has been magnificent for English football."
--------------------
I so agree, David was taken for granted, and has been a great player.

ONE of DAVID BECKHAMââŹâ˘s future teammates at LA Galaxy has offered to work as the Great BritonââŹâ˘s pool cleaner ââŹâ to boost his tiny soccer salary.
Defender TY HARDEN runs a pool valeting service to beef up his ĂÂŁ9,000 annual earnings from football.
He is one of the lowest-paid players in AmericaââŹâ˘s Major League Soccer, doing odd jobs for teammates and other club staff to eke out extra cash.
Now he hopes this will help him pay back ĂÂŁ500,000-a-week Becks if David treats his new pals to nights out at some of TinseltownââŹâ˘s hottest hangouts.
Ty admitted: ââŹĹIt could be embarrassing if he buys a few of us dinner at a top restaurant and expects the favour returned.
ââŹĹThe only way IââŹâ˘ll be able to do that is if he pays me a couple of hundred bucks to clean his pool.ââŹ

The Professional of the 21st Century, a Blend of David Beckham, J.K. Rowling, Viggo Mortensen, Madonna and Fernando Alonso
According to Catenon, the Perfect Executive Combines the GeographicalMobility of the Footballer, the Creativity and Innovation of the Writer, theMulticultural Mindset of the Actor, the Flexibility of the Singer and theResults-Orientation of the Race Car Driver
The ideal candidate for any European country is the one whonot only has the right training, a mastery of several different languages andthe willingness to relocate, but also displays a blend of some of the valuesof the footballer, the writer, the actor, the singer and the race car driver, according to an analysis by Catenon Worldwide Executive Search, aninternational company that undertakes global searches for professionals.
The study concludes that despite the fact that they all workin a field other than business, all five possess the personality traits thatare most sought by companies. For example, Beckham's geographical mobility,J.K. Rowling's imagination and innovation, Mortensen's multiculturalism,Madonna's flexibility and Alonso's results-orientation are all qualities thatthe perfect executive should possess.
Beckham's geographical mobility
According to the executive search processes performed byCatenon, 30% of vacancies have been covered by looking for candidates in atleast four countries at the same time, whereas a mere two years ago 95% ofthe vacancies were covered by professionals in the country where the job was.
Companies appreciate professionals who can also work in one oftheir subsidiaries in any country. To do so, they need professionals with thewillingness to relocate to other countries that David Beckham has shown inhis career, which has encompassed England, Spain and now the United States.
J.K. Rowling's creativity, innovation and imagination
Companies no longer only compete on products or technology.Nowadays human resources are the key to success and their most powerfulcompetitive advantage. Plus, doing things well is not enough, rather theyhave to be done in the most innovative and imaginative way.
As a result, the imagination, innovation and creativity ofJ.K. Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter series, symbolise what is expectedof executives: that they are capable of resolving problems using theirimagination, and that they have the creative ability to find new paths andbold solutions.
Mortensen's multiculturalism
This is the age of open, multicultural minds, of professionalswho know how to adapt in order to live abroad. Companies have internalstructures which allow for coordination of a certain area for allgeographical markets.
Executives need not only languages, they also need the enrichedexperience of having lived in different cultures. This is the caseof actor Viggo Mortensen: born in New York to a Danish father, Mortensen wasraised in Argentina and speaks English, Spanish and Danish perfectly.
Madonna's "chameleon-like" flexibility
Given the increasing dynamism of the current economicenvironment, companies put a premium on professionals who are capable ofwearing different hats.
Madonna is a fine example of this ability to adapt todifferent stages. The once-provocative artist is now gaining accolades bywriting children's books. She's been successful in her various roles, showinga versatility that is a prerequisite for any job.
Alonso's results-orientation
The last attribute of the perfect executive is the ability tobe results-oriented. Companies mainly measure the ability to achieve goalsand objectives.
Formula One race car driver Fernando Alonso is not onlyfocused on winning, he also has steadfastness, perseverance and the abilityto concentrate.

hmm this is another take i guess on the article above.
Becks looks forward to US life
David Beckham has revealed that he hasn't seen his new LA home and that Victoria has been doing the hard work organising their new life in the US.
In London collecting the Greatest Briton award for global achievement, Beckham admitted he hadn't visited his new home, saying: "I've only seen pictures and a video of it so Victoria's the one who's taking control.
"She's gone over there and found the house and the schools. She's doing all the hard work decorating, obviously not literally decorating."
Despite not seeing the house in Beverley Hills personally Beckham is still clearly sure that he's got the right home for his family. He said: "We wanted a house that's comfortable for the boys and is very private and we've got that."
Luckily for the pair they won't be alone in a strange land as their A-list pals are just down the road.
Beckham admitted: "I think it's always nice to move somewhere and have friends there already and we've got that with Tom [Cruise] and Katie [Holmes] and Mark [Antony] and Jennifer [Lopez] as well."

Cute little mention.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/soccer/la ... rts-soccer
In 2005, Liverpool trailed Milan by three goals in the second half, tied the score within six minutes and won the trophy on penalty kicks. It's the most amazing soccer comeback I've ever seen, although David Beckham and I argued about that when I interviewed him later in 2005.
Beckham was visiting the Home Depot Center to unveil his new soccer academy -- and drop more than a few heavy hints that, you know, it sure would be nice one day to play in America.
In Los Angeles.
For the Galaxy.
Beckham, of course, played for Manchester United in 1999 when United pulled off its own Champions League final miracle -- scoring two goals in injury time to defeat Bayern Munich, 2-1.
That was Beckham's choice for greatest comeback. "Two goals in injury time!" I countered with Liverpool '05: "Three goals in six minutes against an Italian defense!" Our debate ended in a friendly draw.

Re: Random Beckham News
Sven-Goran Eriksson has hailed David Beckham's return to the England squad.
Steve McClaren, the man who succeeded Eriksson as England boss after last summer's World Cup, has decided to end Beckham's international exile after the midfielder's starring role in Real Madrid's late-season revival.
Beckham has been selected in the 26-man squad for the friendly against Brazil at Wembley next Friday and the Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia five days later.
And Eriksson told Sky Sports 2: "I am very happy for him. He deserves to play."
Beckham will leave Madrid to join the Los Angeles Galaxy in July, leading to speculation that his international return may only be temporary.
Eriksson added: "In the future? I don't know, they start again in September.
"But I can't see any better player on the right. Maybe not for Real Madrid, maybe not anywhere in the world."

Re: Random Beckham News
David Beckham told the âGazzetta dello Sportâ that the toughest decision of his career was turning down Milan to join LA Galaxy and explains why Antonio Cassano is âcrazy.â
The Real Madrid manâs contract expires next month and in January he was free to negotiate with a number of clubs.
Milan announced they had been his number one option if Becks had decided to stay in Europe and the player admits that is true.
âIt was not easy to say no to Milan, one of the best clubs in the world. The squad, the Coach, the President, the city and then Ronaldo went there too. It was a very tough choice,â said the England international who today received a surprise recall from Steve McClaren for the friendly against Brazil and Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia.
âI was honoured, flattered and tempted. But I had to think about my family and wanted a different challenge.
âI am well aware that football in the States cannot be compared to that in Europe, but I see it as a challenge. I am not just going there to play, I am an ambassador for a movement.
âI would have liked to play in Serie A. Italy is a country I love because it has everything â great football, great players, the best food in the world, wine, fashion, countryside. Last year I was in Portofino and have often gone to Tuscany. We even thought of getting a house there.â
Former Real teammate Ronaldo was celebrating the Champions League trophy in Athens and Beckham could have been there with him.
âIt was a deserved success, especially considering everything they did during the season. The second leg against Manchester United was the perfect performance. Milan play great football, work hard, score fantastic goals and have extraordinary talents like Kaka.â
Liverpool felt they were unfortunate after losing the Final 2-1 on Wednesday, but Beckham does not see it that way.
âLiverpool know it too, Milan played better in Athens and they won. Filippo Inzaghi has scored extraordinary goals, important goals and fortunate goals. But you cannot talk about luck really in his case â he has been hitting the back of the net all his life and is to be admired.â
The race for the Ballon dâOr is Milan-heavy this year and captain Paolo Maldini is in the running.
âHe deserves to challenge for it with Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. Anyone who at the age of 39 is playing in a club like Milan and has the respect that Maldini commands deserves to win. But it will be difficult.â
Beckham is a teammate of current European and World Player of the Year Fabio Cannavaro and another Italian talent, Antonio Cassano, at Real.
âThey are very different, both great lads. Cassano is crazy, but heâs also one of the nicest people Iâve ever met. He is always happy, ready to laugh and joke around, not to mention a real talent. Iâd like him to play more.
âCannavaro is one of the best defenders I have ever known. We got on well off the field as well, weâre good friends.â
The same cannot be said of Coach Fabio Capello, who often clashed with Beckham at the Bernabeu and froze him out after he signed for LA Galaxy.
âHe is one of the greatest managers in the world. Whatever you may say about him, his career speaks for itself. He is a winner, someone who believes in his players and is on our side. These are qualities you could see despite the problems within the club.â

With David everyone is the best , nicest player, manager, guy in the world.
So if one manager is THE best and the another THE best, whose the best between both? eh? I think, after a while too much "civilty" leads to insignifiant compliments.

Honestly, I think David just means really well. He never has anything bad to say about anyone, always talks about the positive, etc. He is just not capable of being disrespectful, in my opinion. He is a great guy who thinks "the best" of everyone and I admire him greatly for that.

Re: Random Beckham News
DENVER â The biggest fan of David Beckham's recall to England's team may have been Alexi Lalas.
"It's great," the Los Angeles Galaxy president and general manager said before his team's game with Colorado on Saturday. "Ultimately, we look at it as a statement on the Galaxy. The fact we have a player who's been called into the English national team says a lot about who he is. We couldn't be happier for him."
Beckham was named to England's 26-man squad this week for the first time since the World Cup last season in Germany. He has been playing for Real Madrid.
Lalas isn't worried the move will affect Beckham's arrival date with the Galaxy. Lalas still expects Beckham-mania to kick off in the middle of July. As for Beckham's national team obligations, Lalas said the Galaxy would be flexible.
"I'll never stand in the way of a player representing his country, as long as collectively we feel it's the appropriate time," Lalas said. "I know how important it is to David. His time captaining his country and representing his country is something he holds dear."
FIND MORE STORIES IN: World Cup | MLS | England | David Beckham | Galaxy | World Cup team | Beckham | Alexi Lalas | Joe Cannon | Lalas
If the Galaxy had any questions about how much soccer the 32-year-old Beckham had left, his appointment to the national team probably erased it.
"I never doubted it," goalie Joe Cannon said. "I don't think anyone in our clubhouse has. The guy's only one year out of being captain of a World Cup team for crying out loud. It's funny how people write him off. I think a lot of people think he's coming for his swan song or whatever. That's why this signing (to the national team) is so huge."
The Galaxy have gotten off to a rocky start in 2007. However, Cannon doesn't think it's a case of Los Angeles waiting around for its international star to arrive.
But Beckham's arrival won't hurt.
"I'm confident this team will be one of the best by the end of the year," Cannon said.
Beckham is scheduled to make around $27.5 million over five years, and millions more in endorsement deals. And while his rich contract could be a divisive issue in the locker room, Lalas doesn't see it that way.
"You can rail against the system all you want as long as it's not directed at him," Lalas said. "I challenge all of our players: if you think you're worth that type of money then go out and get it. The reality is they can't.
"David has worked very, very hard on and off the field to achieve his status. I don't think anybody begrudges him this type of money."
Cannon certainly doesn't.
"Obviously, we won't make as much as him," Cannon said. "But let's be honest: none of us are as recognizable."
Lalas said he doesn't think Beckham's job is to be a savior for MLS.
"The league doesn't need saving," Lalas said. "The league does need bold moves. I think this would qualify as a bold move. He's got enough pressure on him, let alone to save soccer in the United States.
"This is a spotlight on our league that we welcome."
And the spotlight couldn't shine any brighter on Beckham than in Los Angeles.
"I say this with all due respect to Colorado and any other teams - and I played for a bunch of them - there's no other place where he should go," Lalas said. "I think it's a perfect fit on and off the field. He's looking at this not only as a challenge for him personally, but also an adventure for him and his family."

He's looking at this not only as a challenge for him personally, but also an adventure for him and his family."

thanks for the articles.
Yallop rules out Beckham loan
Los Angeles Galaxy coach Frank Yallop has insisted that David Beckham will not return to a European club on loan later this year.
Beckham has been in fine form for Real Madrid over the last few months and earned a recall to the England squad on Saturday when Steve McClaren named his squad for the upcoming games against Brazil and Estonia.
He will move to America this summer but reports have suggested he could return to the Premiership in November following the conclusion of the Major League Soccer season.
The likes of Everton, Tottenham and Blackburn have been linked with a move for the midfielder, while Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has already expressed a definite interest.
"If it is possible to get David Beckham back to St James' Park, we would really go for it," Allardyce said in The People.
"I would love to have him on board."
However, Yallop has ruled out such a move, maintaining that Beckham has come to Los Angeles for a fresh challenge and will not be leaving in November.
Yallop told Sky Sports News: "He won't be going on loan anywhere. He'll be taking a break at that point and getting ready for our pre-season.
"He's shown that he's a world class player, he doesn't need to go back and go on loan anywhere."
Beckham, who has so far made 94 appearances for England, appears to have been brought back as a stop-gap measure for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia.
However, Yallop believes Beckham will produce a starring performance and make it difficult for McClaren to drop him again.
"I think that David is going to have such an impact when he joins the squad again that I think it will be difficult to leave him out to be honest," he explained.
"We realise that David wants to get to the 100-cap plateau and we will never stop him doing that."
Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello has also paid tribute to Beckham for his recent form, and claimed he is as fit as he has ever been.
Beckham helped set up two of Real's goals in the 3-1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday and also struck the post with an effort from 20 yards.
"I said (on Friday) that David Beckham was playing better than he has over the last two years," said Capello.
"He is in extraordinary physical condition. When he puts the ball into the centre he does it with much precision, speed and quality. He is in great shape."

Re: Random Beckham News
this is a good one. with nice quotes from guti and ramos.
American idolâs golden farewell
After being sidelined by Fabio Capello, David Beckham has become a crucial part of Real Madridâs push for La Liga
ARGUMENTS for recalling David Beckham to the England team tend to be best finished with a simple question: âSo, who would you play instead?â Now take the same question and imagine putting it to the Real Madrid head coach Fabio Capello as he planned, letâs say, his strategy for last nightâs Primera Liga match against Deportivo La CoruĂąa, with his team top of the table by the narrowest of margins, and only two more fixtures left in an engrossing title race.
In January, remember, Capello had decided he would rather never pick the former England captain again once it was known his long-term future had been committed to the US; now he looks at Beckham, then he looks at Jose Antonio Reyes, at Gonzalo Higuain, at Guti, at Antonio Cassano, and even at the former Brazil captain, Emerson, and after surveying each of them he writes down the initials DB, and usually puts him at outside-right. Okay, so itâs not quite like bumping Figo off the Madrid right-wing, as Beckham sometimes did in the galactico era, but Beckham is keeping some good footballers out of the Madrid team, possibly better ones than Aaron Lennon.
Cassano and Reyes were not very long ago the most exciting young players in Italy and Spain. Guti is the vice-captain of Madrid. Emerson goes everywhere with Capello.
Reyes and Higuain joined Madrid this season amid fanfare, symbols at a club supposedly building an exciting new dynasty.
When Capello recalled Beckham in February it was a popular decision. In late May, after spells out injured and suspended, few would reckon Reyes, Higuain, Cassano, Emerson or even Guti worth a place ahead of him. Since a loss on January 7, Madrid are undefeated when Beckham has played; without him in the team, they have lost four times. With Beckham, they have won six out of eight matches; without him, they have won only six out of 14.
His bad statistic is the yellow card almost every 100 minutes. A better one says Beckham has scored or set up one in eight of Madridâs league goals this season, even though he has missed several months of it â injured, dropped or castigated by Capello, or suspended â and started fewer than half the matches. Within the past five weeks, Beckhamâs passes have been responsible for the winning goal in the 2-1 win over Valencia, then genuine title rivals, and a goal away at Athletic Bilbao. Another Beckham cross set up the first in last weekendâs 3-2 win at Recreativo Huelva, although it was something that happened at the end of that seesaw 90 minutes in Andalucia that struck Capello as most worth celebrating. Madrid secured the three points in the final seconds, with Roberto Carlos scoring and Beckham involved in the build-up. âIt was the last move of the game,â said Capello, âand it wasnât just Roberto Carlos who dashed 30 yards to be there. So did Beckham. Thatâs not luck, that's heart.â
Colleagues have been full of praise. âHe could easily have carried on in a higher level than the MLS,â says Guti. âItâs a shame he's going to Galaxy,â says Sergio Ramos, âbecause the way he strikes a ball is still absolutely outstanding â so is his attitude and professionalism. And most of all, thereâs his dead balls. He takes them better than anybody in the world.â Ramos, a defender, has headed two goals from Beckham free-kicks in the past six fixtures. âItâs about the way we link,â adds Ramos. âWe understand each other with a simple look. If Iâm going to the near post or the far post, Iâll give him a signal, and he puts the ball in exactly the right place.â The Spanish press have almost all been with Beckham throughout a testing season, criticising the clubâs junta for the manner of his departure â a free transfer â to America, deriding Capello first for his bullishness in excluding Beckham and then his indecisiveness when he recalled him. âBeckham has taught a lesson to those who thought his signing to Galaxy was going to take away his focus,â beamed Marca, the daily sports paper. âHe has won the heart of fans,â cooed their rivals, As, âand put an end to the demagogic, perverse and absurd idea that he was just a well-paid and overrated marketing doll.â
