All the tall girls raise 'ya hands...

Postby Spicegirl244 » 26 Oct 2009, 23:48

Any other tall girls out there!? I'm gonna share my secrets and I want to hear yours!

What do you do about heels? I myself am 180 cm and find that with wearing heels I'm taller than an NBA basketball player. I usually opt for flats that look like heels and that make a little click when I walk to fool others and so that I'm roughly the same height as all of the other girls at bars/clubs.

My shirts are too short! Being a tall girl also means having the arm span of a gorilla- this can make shopping for long sleeve shirts and blouses impossible! I've found that the best thing to do is to find tops that are styled to be long in the arm for a "normal" sized person- these fit GREAT on lanky-armed individuals like us! That, or go for the messy 'rolled sleeves' look. If you do it right, it looks oddly well-put together. And what to do if the top is too short and leaves a gap between your belly button and jeans? Buy the top tight and LAYER!

Why are jeans cheaper for the shorter girls?
Up until about a year ago I thought that If I wanted to buy a pair of jeans that weren't floods, I had to shell out the big bucks. Of course every girl wants a few pairs of high quality, amazing fitting jeans- but what about the pairs of cheapies we all have? Why did cheap jeans look so good on other girls but not on me? Thanks to the skinny jean trend that's been popular for the last little while, I have been able to buy cheap jeans that reach my 89 cm inseam requirement! Most shorter girls wear skinny jeans and get the "bunch" at the bottom which is super popular- but when a long-legged individual wears them they fit perfectly!

I guess these are my biggest tips to any girl over the 5'7 (170 cm) mark, please add or change any tips you have yourself :D

I'm 170 cm so I rarely wear high heels, only on special ocasion, because anyway I have back problem.
Shirts too short: totally my problem. I have a large winter coat that's baggy everywhere but still, the cuff aren't long enough. Most long sleeves are just too short, so I don't wear them often.
I don't have much leg lenght so rarely having a flood is a problem for me; my size is in the 2 digits so, it's even often long.

I'm 5ft 8, and have loooong torso so tops too short is always a problem for me too - I always have to buy long vest tops to layer under everything. Most high street stores I shop in have a 'Tall' section (for people around 5ft 7 upwards) though which is good, the arms and length are always pretty good, and they're normally the same price as normal sizes.

Leg length seems to be fine for me, 32" fits fine with flats which is what I wear a lot of anyway for daytime. I find little dresses to be a bit of problem... my sister (5ft 3ish) for example has got a load of dresses that I would love to borrow - coz they look fab on her - but when I put them on they end up halfway up my bum! I find I have to buy longer ones and hem them up a bit.

I have some equally tall girl friends and guy friends so I don't mind wearing high heels when I'm properly dressing up. I also can't dance in flats! And if I do, I end up going on tiptoes anyway... it's weird.

I don't have the same problem (as I'm barely 5'2", about 157 cm.) BUT I have such a problem finding jeans for the total opposite reason. Everything is always SO SO long on me. Even if I wear heels, some of them still drag. I usually have luck at Express because they come in Short, Regular and Tall. I wouldn't mind spending money on a good pair of jeans however, they last for years. :D

5'9" over here. Same problems basically as all the ones listed. Pants? Short. Shirts? Short. I'd love to lose weight, but I think that if I did, NOTHING would EVER fit me. :D

I'm 174 cm but I still wear high heels, also some of the killer-high ones.... but it's mainly when I'm in Europe cuz when I do that in Asia I feel like an idiot and a monster.

Some of my friends are 180cm and taller....they never wear high heels.

I'm 172 so that's not tall at all haha.
I love to wear heels etc.. The only bad thing is that I'm really skinny and that makes me look taller. People almost never believe me when I say I'm 172. They think I'm taller than that..

I'm a shortie too. Whenever I find jeans or trousers that fit my waist, they're really long. I can't believe people that tall have that small a waist.

same as katie. im 5'9'' the only problem i have are with shirts fitting too short and my most recent problem are how shirts fit around my shoulders. i have really big shoulders so getting long sleeve collered shirts(like the flannel ones that are in style now) are hard to find because they fit to tight around my shoulders so i look like the hulk when i put them on lol. if i get a medium they fit excellent around my torso but too tight around my shoulders. if i get a large they fit decent around my shoulders but too big around my torso.

and as for my shirts fitting too short i just started buying the tank tops that you layer with so that it comes down to right above my butt lol I HATE SHORT SHIRTS!!!

i never had problems with jeans fitting too short just how they fit in the crotch area. i dont like it when the jeans bunch up in the front to make it look like you have a dick when you walk lol. so a couple years ago i figured out that the shorter the zipper the less bunching it'll do.

oh and i WILL rock the heels regardless of how high they are :D (im mostly a boot person though not a huge fan of high heel shoes)

In the same sense as being aware what does and doesnt suit your shape, I am very flat chested (boo hoo boo) and have to be aware what doesn't suit me when buying clothes.

I can never buy V necks, but slash nexk or polo neck are OK!

If anyone else has any tips for clat chested women I will be so greatful!!

Ditto!

At the moment I'm very into off the shoulder type tops and oversized tops.

Me too, that one of my requirement. Usually guys are at least my size... but I met one (just a friend) that his head is up to my shoulder, it's just too funny.
