DenDen was created to have exactly THIS not happening. Back in 2002, the Spice Girls forum on dotmusic was (one of the) most popular places for fans to be, but it was also heavily spammed by non-fans posting topics such as the infamous "Which Spice Girl has the hairiest fanny?", ridiculous fake news stories etc and nothing was done about it - the admin team didn't care and the forum did not have a moderator. This is the very root of DenDen - to have a place for fans where they can enjoy the company of other fans and discuss things with them, without being annoyed by spoilsports.
Of course DenDen developed over the time, we all got older, views change, there is often not many positive things to discuss and all the old issues have been discussed a zillion times, so there's bound to be less positive overall vibe in any particular artist forum, and of course critical discussions are often the only ones worth following, but there has to be a line.
A post such as "Geri should not bother releasing new music, she knows she will FLOP big time" in a forum of Geri fans is not part of a critical discussion, it's trashing the place and making it less enjoyable for those who genuinely like her and more or less only have DenDen to discuss her publically.
So we as a team would like to ask everyone posting in ANY artist forum to re-consider whether or not their negative posts are a valid critical point relevant to the discussion, or just hurtful towards the fans who love and believe in the particular artist.
At the same time, we would also like everyone to check if a post they are offended by is seen in the right context - even hardcore fans can get dissapointed at times and might say unpleasent things, which is of course not something we would want to regulate.
Be respectful to each other, think about how what you write might look to someone else, and let's not spoil it for those who are happy to have a place to discuss their favorite acts for nearly 10 years.
Thanks!
