Walkaway

Postby Cal2008 » 02 Apr 2012, 14:08

Does anyone know why walkaway did not get single release? I heard it was going to before bag it up as a single.

I wish it WAS... It was one of the very few tracks I loved off of the Schizo-album. My favorite actually off of that one, next to "Look At Me". :hmm:

My favorite Geri Halliwell track ever!

Would love to see a musicvideo of it. I think it would have done great in the charts (at that time). Sort of dated now but I still love love love it!

Would also have loved to hear a remix of it!

I never heard it was going to be released before Bag It Up, I think there was rumours it was going to be released after Bag It Up... But I imagine that looking back that was more fan speculation, as Walkaway would be the most obvious choice for a 5th single... Personally I think that Geri thought that that would be milking it, so just decided to leave it at four singles.

she should have release double AA - Look At Me / Walkaway back then in May 1999

...but I guess she rather wanted to present her strong part and maybe it was a right decision

One of the few songs i don't care for. Singings bad, lyrics not much better and musics average. It does pick up in the end but by that time you're bored of it.

I think Walkaway is really special and she could of had a number 1 with it. Lyrically, though, I think she could have only released it as her debut solo single. That could have been interesting - choosing a ballad as her comeback would have really surprised people. x x

As well it was about leaving the Spice Girls and it would have been pretty big commercially-wise as well. I love the song though, very few I like from Schizo-album.

Walkaway being the 5th single would be so pointless. The song is about her and her departure of the Spice Girls, so releasing that song 2 years after she left and when she already was a big solo UK female act would've been a mistake.

If Walkway had been a single, the only option would've been the 1st single, but I'm glad it remained an album track though. I love the song, but I can't see it as a single. It reminds me of Melanie C's "Feel The Sun". They're both pop masterpieces (and both about leaving the past behind / Spice Girls) but they wouldn't have been good singles.

It's a nice song but not worthy of being a single. It's too slow and they would have had to have edited it down... No.

Something I always loved was that the song "Goodbye" was released by the Spice Girls and dedicated to Geri... and then in Walkaway she sings, "But I know it's too late for this Goodbye"... I'm sure they're not related - I just always thought it was interesting.

It's an okay song. Nothing great or #1 material in my opinion.

Something I've never liked about the song is the line "Just one tender moment I cannot find. Maybe I had none". I hate that verse, as if she didn't had any good memory of her years with the Spice Girls, something I'm sure it's 100% untrue.

I love this song. She is basicly describing how she felt when she had just left the Spice Girls. How lonely she must have been and how unsure about what the future held. Not only had she given up her career but also 4 of her good friends. Must have been the hardest desicion of her life and that's what this song is telling us. I never used to like this song at all, until I find myself in a similar situation and I actually listened to the lyrics and realised how much meaning is in this song.

I agree that this should have been released with Look At Me - what an epic return it would have been for her ...

I love the second verse. It`s my favorite part of the song.
She may have felt like this exactly when she wrote the song.

I'm glad Geri wrote Feel The Fear, because Walkaway is such a sad song and I think we (as Spice fans) needed another song which addressed her leaving the band. Feel The Fear is like the sequel to Walkaway.

"Just one tender moment I cannot find - well maybe I had none"

"We were strong together - now I realize"

I LOVE Walkaway. I think it would have been a great first single or a AA side with Look At Me. Just in the vein of "leaving the past behind and now here's my new beginning".

The only line that annoys me is when she sings, "That the tears you saw in my eyes, will be there forever". I always thought it should be "won't be there forever" as if she's saying "I will get over the pain." instead of "I'll never get over it." I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking it.
