Re: The Big Bang Theory
I actually did some reading up on some articles today after Andres and Masterpiece said the show was racist. There are a lot of people who think the same. But the points some of these bloggers etc make are pathetic. The entire show is about stereotypes, i.e. geeks. Sheldon's OCD, Leonard's asthma/love of comic books, Howard being a Jewish man with a large nose who lives with his mother...yet no-one finds this offensive, yet because Raj is Indian, to joke about stereotypes is out of bounds. Raj regularly makes anti-Semitic jokes towards Howard, but no-one says that the show is against Jewish people. I can see why some people would believe there were touches of racism within the show, but at the end of the day it is how you personally react to things. If you wish to take every tiny little thing to heart and laugh at nothing in your life, then yes, The Big Bang Theory probably is racist, but luckily there are some people in the world who can find the funny aspects of things and laugh at stereotypes - not because of racism, but because of how ridiculous stereotypes are.

Getting your knickers in a knot over The Big Bang Theory being racist is like me boycotting How I Met Your Mother for all the jokes they make at the expense of Canadians.

Except that's the issue. When the characters are just that, they're objectified. Sheldon needs to be more than someone with Aspergers, Raj needs to be more than the indian guy, etc. When you're limiting a person to a cartoonish basic aspect of their race, then that's racist

Raj is more than just the Indian guy. If anything his main quirk is that he can't talk to women unless drunk. Last I checked, that isn't a stereotype of Indians.

It's a TV show. They're not real people. They don't 'need' to be more than anything.

Seriously, it is a tv show. I see it as being about 4 very smart people who haven't been the most popular in life. But have found their niche with people who have quirks and love them and accept them. I don't see colour when i see raj nor do I see a Jew when i see Howard. Just insecure people looking for love and acceptance.

I especially can't stand the canned laughter and applause. But it still has some funny moments from time to time, How I Met Your Mother is the one show that has become really boring with time, not even Barney can save it right now.
I'm much more into comedies like Modern Family, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and the amazing Community
I suggest "The Middle" as a great comedy aswell
Love it!Regarding BBT, I never watched it...

I never really 'got' that show, to be honest. I occasionally watch an episode whenever it's on, but I don't follow it.

I like both BBT & 30 rock.
Sheldon and Amy Farrah Fowler crack me up. Adding Amy's character was a great move. Imho ofcourse.
As for 30 rock. I love Tina Fey. Naturally i like her on 30 rock. But Kenneth's character is the funniest though. He's just down right mad lol
Pitty it would end after next season though

Agree on all points.
Although I think Jenna is the funniest character in 30Rock, which they seem to have realised this season as she's had way more screen time than previous seasons.

the thing with Jenna is that it reminds me too much of her character on Ally McBeal. It's pretty much the same, still funny but still..

I kinda think that was the point? I can seriously imagine Tiny Fey wanting the Elaine-type character but even more dramatic

^ could be. But as a former Ally McBeal viewer i find Jenna less intresting because it's been done already.
