Music section revamped

I think the forums which were actually active, and didn't already have a topic in ST should be reinstated. Girls Aloud, The Saturdays, and Sugababes... The rest (Britney, Madonna, Xtina, Gaga) who already had their own topic can stay gone.

Is there really that big of a need for their own forums though? I think that for cohesion purposes it works better like this.

Exactly. If Britney, Madonna and Christina - which were all thriving forums - can survive in a single thread, I think all of them can.

By the way, already I'm finding myself browsing the forums at the bottom of the index page far more often than I did before. I think this will help promote traffic to those areas, too. (Movies, Books, Travel, etc.)

I'm going to continue to make them when I feel like them. As well as the "Create your own setlist" type threads as well. I'll let the mods deal with the sorting.

It's all new for us as well, so we'll have to see how it works out. I suggest you behave like you want to and try to stick to the "big" topic for normal news about the particular artist as much as possible, and we'll see from there if any further sorting is actually required!

Seems like they're taking a page from the Popjustice Rule Book. I'm not a fan. Some artists I'm only mildly interested in, you can visit their forum and click on whatever Topic interests you. Now you're literally got to shift through the BS to find anything worthwhile out. Conversation topics will overlap. Bleh.

I still don't understand how a subforum with topics that have EVERYTHING in it could work or be organised.... DD's search option is terrible, so having just one post per artist is crazy, how are you going to find anything there? And what about when someone decides to do a "favourite album/single/member/etc" poll inside a topic that's supposed to have the latest info on the artist? or when they start posting a gazillion pics? That's why each artist had their own subforum
Oh, and since we're accommodating things and stuff, there are many topics in ST that belong in the movies/tv subforum

The sticky topic at the very top is basically a table of contents. Jay worked very hard on it, and it works sufficiently.

I don't love the new set up yet, but we should all at least give it a chance. If you didn't want it, the mods gave a couple of months for everyone to speak up about it.

The decision to revamp the music section was due to the large amount of feedback from members who really wanted this to happen!

The artist forums were barely being used, with most members choosing to post in singular topics in Small Talk.

For example - Britney's one topic (originally in Small Talk, now in Music) has generated 8361 posts in 18 months. In the same time frame, Britney's forum managed 2470 posts, across 222 different topics. Therefore, over three quarters of Britney related posts went into one topic, and less than a quarter in a whole forum dedicated to her.

It's only been a day, and it's different for all of us! Change is always a bit daunting, but the intention was positive. Let's see how it works over a longer time period.

Well, I for one suggested to let the members vote on which forums to keep. I don't think it was neccesary to remove all.

I am VERY happy with this! Dennis you did a great job for several reasons. First of all I have now checked out several artists I have long forgotten about like Joss Stone. Its now easier to find the hottest new releases and Im less likely to check out artists who wont have anything out anytime soon.
