question about Geri's Sotheby auction

Postby starz1 » 05 Dec 2013, 17:49

I noticed at her auction in 1998,
she never auctioned ANY of the Istanbul costumes or shoes worn in the concert. I noticed that.

The only thing that did get selected for auction that was used for the concert was the red sequin bead outfit used for Spice up your life (which she wore prior for the MTV Europe awards).

I wonder if she kept those costumes?

She might not have had them. I think she sold all she had tbh. I bet she regrets selling the union jack dress

I finally got my hands on the Sotheby's catalog from her auction the other day. After reading through it, I was trying to do some research to see what certain items sold for. During my research I came across and article stating that Geri had attempted to buy her union jack dress back prior to the reunion tour, but the Hard Rock wouldn't part with it. Not sure if that is true or not, but it would have been cool to see her in it again.

I heard she wanted to wear it during the reunion but after realising how much it would need to be altered she thought against it.

She sold awards, costumes from the videos and the movie, and other typicals dress, but maybe as she leaves the group suddenly she could not keep with her all costumes used in the tour.

Why would you sell awards? I mean I know some of them were probably meaningless smash hits awards but surely they only have value to Geri and are something to keep and be proud of.

i always thought this was very foolish of Geri. The thought is nice, donating proceeds to charity but it was easy a desperate "im not a Spice Girl anymore, look at me!" cry for attention that i guarantee she wishes she didnt part with everything.

its all memories and moments in time nobody except her and the other 4 girls will ever know about. she'll have to resort to old YouTube clips of those moments.

I am glad she sold the Union Jack Dress as such an iconic dress deserves to be on public display rather than in hiding.

I also don't like the thought of her wearing it twice a replica like she did is ok but the original belonged in that iconic moment. :$

This was a real knee jerk reaction, I've had moments where I've thrown stuff out thinking 'I'm so over this' and then a year or so later I wish I'd kept it. And that's so much cool stuff that she gave away. But the majority of it was just clothes, I guess, so maybe she didn't miss them that much. I think she probably misses the Union Jack dress the most.

I totally get why she sold the costumes it's just clothes at the end of the day its not like she would ever wear them again, and it was for a good cause. I wish the rest of the girls had done a big auction of their clothes would be amazing to see a full set in a hard rock café somewhere!

The awards thought I totally don't get... WHY on earth would you sell them!? I bet she regrets it. (still she kept the important ones like the Brit's and Ivor Norvella...)

Great to see the catalogue, finally!
I agree I think Geri was a little hasty selling those awards. I had no idea she did that!

Wow, that just made me really sad looking through those scans. At that point in time it was something she felt she had to do, but I bet she regrets losing some of those items now.

I understand you want to get rid of some clothes but awards? come on, Geri should've just given it to her mom to store it. Thanks for the scans though

The facts she sold the awards baffles me in general but those awards? Seriously Geri? Your Ivor Novello? That's really prestigious isn't it?

What I find more baffling is in the Molly Dineen documentary it shows she KEPT the Smash Hits Poll Winners Award and a plague for a Sun Readers Poll?!?

She sold her awards?! How bizarre. She must've been desperate to completely rid herself of everything in regards to Ginger... I bet she regrets that now.

She wore that during a special on Spanish TV (the screengrabs you posted are from there) and she instantly became every man's favourite. BOOBS.
